RELIGION: “You have to climb your way to the top to be accepted. You have to wear the right clothes, say the right things, conform to the culture, and definitely, absolutely, do not be who your Heavenly Father created you to be. Oh—and once you’re at “the top”, do not mingle with the commoners!”
JESUS: “I AM the Vine and you are the branches… apart from Me, you can DO nothing. You must let my love continually nourish your hearts by way of receiving… by way of KNOWING Me.”
RELIGION: “Do.”
JESUS: “Be.”
RELIGION: “Perform.”
JESUS: “Be who I created you to be.”
RELIGION: “You must earn your salvation.”
JESUS: “It is by grace you have been saved… not of your own works, but through MY complete WORK.”
RELIGION: “Feed the hungry, clothe and house the homeless, minister in prisons, show up early to band practice, spend every night of your week working for me, heal people, cast out demons, prophesy! This is the what a TRUE believer does! This is what they look like!”
JESUS: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into heaven’s kingdom. It is only those who persist in doing the will of my heavenly Father. On the day of judgment many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, don’t you remember us? Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we cast out demons and do many miracles in your name?’ But I will have to say to them, ‘Go away from me, you lawless rebels! I’ve never been JOINED to you!’” (Matt 7:21-23, TPT).
One is doing, the other is abiding. One is walking separate to and the other is walking joined to. One is knowing about, and the other is being fully known.
