Rainforest

sadness is a rainforest floor when
above the songs of cicadas and birds,
one can see leaves fall
like teardrops onto red, cracked soil,
and with each dull-paper thud,
miniature parchments plead for water––
have they forgotten who they are?

“things will change, rainforest.
there is hope.
you will live again.
remember:
you can call in your rain.”
